The first day of school was today. It was… an adventure, you could say. I got to school (a 14:37 ride this morning, I timed it) and parked on the street a block away because I’m on the waiting list for parking passes. We have to pay to go to school, shouldn’t we be guaranteed parking? Oh well. I found my locker (196, right next to the chapel) and stuffed my junk inside. I wandered my way around for a while until I found the school store (in the commons) and bought a lock for six fricking dollars ( combo is 8-38-32, not that it matters to you). I ran into Mirabel, whom I met at the transfer orientation on Friday. She’s very nice, we became friends quickly. She moved up from L.A. It’s funny, she was born in Madison and then lived in Evanston for a while, while I was born in Evanston and lived in Madison for a while. We were also both at Northwestern University at the same time this summer, though not for the same thing (me lax, her international relations). Anyways… After being sufficiently confused, we managed to find IB English HL. We have tons of classes together because we’re both IB students. Class started. The teacher seems good, but it sounds like the writing will be a lot of review for me from Advanced Comp. this year. Oh well. Nobody paid too much attention to me which was unfortunate, but fortunate. It seems like the IBers are a great group of people. Second hour for me is Honors Physics, in which, I figured out, I’m the only non senior. Oh well. Everybody was super nice and the teacher seemed great and really enthusiastic. After this, we had a class rotation assembly thing for an hour. Junior class went from auditoriam to gym to commons to chapel and we got the basic back to school spiel. Because of this, classes today were short and out of order. After the rotation shit, I went to third hour IB Spanish SL, also known as Honors Spanish 4. My level of proficency fit right in that class. I may even say it was above a lot of the class members. It was a little difficult because I haven’t spoken Spanish since Honduras, so I’m a bit rusty. The teacher “Doctora” is a really good teacher, but really strict about dress code. Socks are a big part of the dress code. That’s mostly what they check. Four offenses and possible expulsion. Jesus. Fourth hour is IB Chemistry HL. I think I’m going to drop it because it seems like it’s all going to be review and I’m already taking physics and I can take Environmental IB systems next year. I have to talk to a counselor about it. After chemistry is lunch 5A. Three words. No Wellness policy. At all. The food is shit. It makes me sick just looking at it. It’s good food once in a while but eating it every day will make me sick. And it’s super expensive. I’m going to bring my own lunch tomorrow. 5B is IB History of the Americas HL. I’m excited for this class. Most of it will be review from this year, but it’ll hopefully be from a new perspective. And we’ll be writing these really intense paper every year. Sixth hour is theology. I don’t know anything about the class matter itself, but I’m keeping an open mind. The thing I hate about it right now is the people in it. Today they seemed like the most obnoxious and immature people ever. This was my worst class of the day. Seventh hour is the fiasco. On my schedule, it went right from sixth hour to eighth hour so I figured there was just a free form study hall in the commons. Until I looked at someone else’s schedule and they told me that study halls were assigned. I ended up in student services for the whole class period and didn’t even end up talking to a teacher, but I set up an appointment for tomorrow seventh hour. Eighth hour is IB High Math HL. The first year seems like it will be a lot of review from FST, but it should be a good class. School ends at 3:11 and I walked to my car and drove home. At home I was bored so I bound my books in grocery bags (all of them), decorated them with leftover scrapbook supplies, and then covered them with clear packing tape. Jenny came in about half way through this and we talked a while. She’s in for surgery tomorrow (Good luck, Jenny if you’re reading this!). That was pretty much my day. I watched most of Back to the Future (I missed the first fifteen minutes) and had Chinese for dinner. I did the rest of homework I had today (Honors Physics and History notes). And now I’m writing this. What a looong day. I’m going to go have myself a brownie sundae upstairs and go to sleep. I’m exhausted. Good night.
I thought you told us you were taking a philosophy class! What happened to that? Or do you take it second semester?
Have you seen Jenee, the girl I met through soccer? If you do see her, tell her I say hi!
HHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYY Katie!
If you have any ideas on how to convince my dad – E-MAIL ME!!!! Hannah’s turn- We should plan a date where you can come to Middleton and we can have a huge PARTAY! Tell us when you have a long weekend or something. Maybe Halloween we have the Thursday and friday off and then the weekend, you should see about that! Are your class mates nice?
What’s up in da house, jk. Katie it’s weird not seeing you around at school any more. :’( Who am I, (sarah), going to walk with to Spanish?? I’m trying to get a facebook…..that way we can talk more
Talk to you later!
We just wanted to say bye!!! XD
That last sentence was suppose to be really far down…..stupid comment system……HOW RUDE!!!
Oooh ouch. Dissing Mirabel in your next post? How could you. Jk.
And how the hell does that dress code work? Socks? Expulsion? I am so never going to a private Catholics school.
Neither are any of the girls at Middleton, judging by what they wear heh.
I finally remembered, KATIE’S BLOG JSOAFE;IJEWA;EFINEAW when like every friggin friend of yours was like, hey, have you checked Katie’s blog? And I’m like, no, I’m a lazy scumbag and now I feel bad.
But yeah. I’m in Spanish IV too! Sweet!
But I’m definitely not taking Spanish V, because a) I have the 3 years of foreign language after that, b) I have the 4 years recommended by UW-Madison, c) I suck at Spanish, d) I have Perkins, which means even if I pass this class, I sure as hell won’t be able to keep up with Spanish V. Seriously, Perkins is the worst teacher I’ve had in a long… long… time. Nice guy, not much work, but COMON. Spanish is not about doing a riddle in Spanish, reading something out of the textbook, then playing chutes and ladders! That’s for teaching Spanish I!
Suz and Grace are in it, and so far Suz has saved me from like… failing the class quite a bit, cause the only other friend I got in that class is Alex Bartell… who is WAY too distracting lol.
Oh wait, Isabel’s in that class too!
1st hour is debate. Holy-fucking-shit thank you for telling me to take Debate. I have Parks-Larson, who seems to be a crazy person, but relatively good teacher. Current events, arguing, political issues? I’m going to make it a party.
2nd hour for me is Visual Presentations and Technology. A class just about making movies? Win. We get to deal with computers that probably cost more than my life.
3rd hour is Spanish IV, as I’ve said.
4th hour lunch! Yay. 6th hour is for freshmen only, as advisory is during 6th hour now. And since everyone in orchestra has 5th hour… 4th hour is everyone in orchestra. Which reminds me…
5th hour orchestra. Hey Katie? Come back, we need you. You know who’s principal cello? Mike Fisher. COME BACK. I’m concertmaster too, so that’s more incentive.
6th hour… Honors Physics. My teacher’s a conservative, is pushy about his own philosophy, is a football and basketball coach, and makes threats like “you do this and you’ll have either 60 seconds of pain (points to one arm) or instant death (points to other arm).” So far, I don’t hate him. A) He’s hilarious, B) He’s a great teacher. By the way, everything you learned about factor-labelling is wrong. Jk. But seriously.
7th hour. Math. PDM. Liss. Liss is as boring as boring can get. Absolutely nothing interesting except he has a cute baby son or something and does ultimate frisbee club. However, Michael Craney, Matt Weiss, Zach Nonn, Sam Brunner, and me. All in one class. Party.
8th hour is AP Psychology. God I hate that class. So far it’s not hard, and the teacher’s a good teacher, but the teacher hates me cause I decided to sit next to like my only friend in the class, Sebastian (the one with hypage) instead of my original seat.
Seriously, the entire class is 1 jock, a bunch of stoners that aren’t even the funny stoner kids, and a shitload of preps that don’t know what the fuck is going on (example: One said, “I don’t think animals have behavior.”) Save me. Then there’s me and Sebastian. Win.
I gotta go to school, so I shall talk to you later.
P.S. Got my license and no parking permit. Damn.
Leland! thank you for describing your day. And no, I’m not being sarastic. Turns out I’m the only non-senior in my Physics class, which is making me a bit shy, but I’m doing better. Other than that, nothing to exciting has happened in physics. Wait, in a lab on thursday, one set of partners got a rubber band to hold of 6 kilos. It was crazy. Congrats on the liscense, that’s super cool. And good luck with the “no behaviour” class. Do you have Harker or the other teacher? And I’m super glad you like debate, I thought you would. And yes, Ms. PL is crazy, but in an entertaining way, and she teaches well. I know you’re going to kick ignorant ass in that class.
